No need for Speed!

We are continually asked what the ideal speed for a drivers test is. Some may say that you drive the speed what the sign says. Some may say that you need to drive 40km/h.

I have posed this question to examiners as well. The one examiner said that he prefers learners to drive 25-35 km/h. Some say you must adjust your speed according to the rest of the traffic. I recommend my clients to drive at a comfortable speed where they can do all observations easily without swerving from side to side when doing so. After many lessons I found 40km/h to be the ideal speed for most clients.

The examiners may however feel you are driving to slow in relation to other traffic and will penalize you where you will loose some points. These points are not as bad as say exceeding the speed limit, which will cost you your test.

The moral of this little article is that when you go for your driving test, you need to monitor your speed very carefully. Exceeding by even 5 km/h will cause you to fail. Driving at slightly below the speed limit is therefore safer as it gives you room for error.

Be safe out there and have fun driving

Whats in a lesson

You just got your learners license and now you are eager to book your first driving lesson. You ask around, open the yellow pages to find a suitable driving school. Some may even check the web. Have a tight budget? You phone around to get prices and finally settle for a driving school.

The big question now is. What are you getting for your money? When we started our driving school, we did a lot of research and asked around to see what is out there and what is needed in the industry. We realized that people out there want real value for their money and that they want to be trained properly, not only to pass their drivers test, but to also drive safely and responsibly thereafter.

Our Instructors are of a very high standard and I challenge all learners out there to put us to the test. If you are not happy with the service you are getting please let us know. Contact us now for our 1st lesson special.

The Driving Coach. Driving Your Success

My R500 mistake:

My car was broken into last night in a “secure” parking garage

My baby is 4 years old and when I told her what happened she said “daddy, why didn’t you put your bag in the boot?”

I could justify things by sharing that my boot actually is full, etc. but I could not argue with her reasoning not to leave bags visible in the car.

So I won’t be leaving any valuables, bags etc. where they become a target.

Resilience is the ability to bounce back after an incident.

Well I managed to get another faulty window repaired at the same time,

something that I had battled with for more then 4 years.

So I was able to make the most of a bad situation.

I recovered my bag and diary and all, so the big wake up call is this:

364 days a year nothing happens, it is on the 365 th day that we have to be ready for.

And we so often take things for granted, it is an incident like this that gives us the wake up call,

to be more alert, more vigilent, and to pay attention.

I am grateful that nothing worse happened, and only hope that others also pay attention more because of this incident.

Good luck and be safe out there.

Have a rhino inspired superb day.

take care

SAIDI WHO?

So, you have your learners and now need to get some practical lessons to prepare for your drivers test? Most of us will now ask around, surf the web or look in the yellow pages to find a driving school.

Finally you found one. One thing you should now ask yourself is whether the driving school/person is certified. And here are the reasons:

  • You want to ensure you get the correct training/procedures
  • You get value for your money
  • You don’t get taken for a “ride”
  • They know what they are doing
  • They are reliable and well established with a good reputation
  • They are above board
  • They are patient and diligent
  • They are able to deal with nerves

Prices for driving lessons range from R60 to R160 in Cape Town. I live by the rule that you get what you pay for. Ask them if they are a member of SIADI and if they are certified. If they are not, you may want to reconsider your decision. Driving lessons does cost money. Make sure you make the right decision

The Driving Coach is a trusted and well established company. We are a member of SIADI and we are certified.
